A Floor-to-Ceiling Chest of Drawers Becomes Stairs to Reach the Top
Here’s another sensible, space-saving idea. A chest of drawers that uses all the space in a room to reach up to the ceiling, even if you can’t, means that you’ll need less space for all your stuff, and that means it takes less energy to keep it all going. So it’s not just frugal (you’ll pay less rent for less space) but it’s also green.
Super solid construction make these drawers safe to stand on.
But they are real drawers, even as they are sturdy enough to be stairs.
I think the design could use a little tweak, though. It’s too skimpy. The model looks precariously perched on her toe, and still can’t really see in the top drawer.
It seems that the bottom four stairs should slide out further, creating a much better foothold than this skimpy space available in the bottom three. If the drawer depth is increased – then the rail at the side can be at a deeper angle, and that would then let the bottom five drawers slide further out, creating real stairs. But they’d have to be engineered to stop securely in the stair position, of course!

Who makes them? Are they available in the US?
