A Green Roof + Indoor Trees + Pools Cool R-House in Indonesia
Indonesian architects Budi Pradono wondered: what if there were trees growing inside a house for energy efficient cooling: just as when you walk into a grove of trees on a hot day and feel the cooler air there, wouldn’t they cool the air?
What if cool pools, a green grass roof, and new saplings could be planted that would one day flourish so their leaves would provide real cooling for tropical interiors?
What if the light could be dappled from above as if you are walking in the forest?
What if long cool pools were set along the interior pathways like in a rainforest?
And they sometimes shadowed you on both sides as you walk on a chilly white ceramic floor.
What if the cool green grass could gradually rise to swallow the house – beginning from the lawn in front of it?
Then, wouldn’t all that cool damp earth and grass on top cool much of the house beneath?
Just some metal mesh would cover partially some caverns below to circulate air and light below.
Filled with references to the fragrant and dark woods and cool ancient stone of tropical rain forests, the very elegant result can be experienced in these cool interiors.
The R-House from Budi Pradono is in the city of Depok, Indonesia.
