How To: Make A Lampshade
Sometimes something as easy as changing your lamp shades can give your room a different feel to it. Searching through tons of lamp shades looking for the right one to fit your space can be a daunting task. If you have an idea of what you want or a certain fabric already, then you can create your own lamp shade. It’s easy and a fast fix to getting the correct color in your room.
Items Needed:
- Existing Lamp Shade (size and shape you desire)
- Fabric
- Fabric Glue
- Trimming for Lamp shade top and bottom
Directions:
When starting, you can use an existing lamp shade or buy an unfinished lamp shade from your local home improvement store. The unfinished lamp shades are inexpensive and easy to work with.
Once you have your lamp shade you will be working with you can start covering it with your selected fabric. Make sure your fabric is cut to the correct dimensions for your lamp, leaving an inch or two to make go over your rim of the lamp. Apply Glue to fabric in sections and carefully attach to shade by smoothing out the fabric as you go around the shade. Apply glue in small sections as you work to make sure the glue doesn’t dry out on you. Leave a half an inch to overlap the shade to ensure a good hold.
When you get to the rim of the lamp shade, glue and tuck the fabric over the rim. Hold the rim until the fabric rim is completely glued down. Now glue your trim pieces and add them to the bottom, top or along seams of your lamp, as desired. You can also add embellishments to lamp such as beads or lace if you choose.
Once shade is completely dry you can place it onto your lamp and you’re done!
