How To Use Natural Products To Clean Your Home

naturalcleaning 1 how to tips advice

Ok, so cleaning is hardly exciting stuff but in some ways it can be satisfying to spend some time scrubbing something and then stand back and watch it shimmer and sparkle!

Unfortunately many household brands of cleaning products are not only bad for the environment because of the chemicals they use, they also bad for you and your skin and your breathing.

On top of this cleaning products can be real expensive to buy so why not think about using natural products that you already have in a cupboard somewhere or that you can pick up in any grocery store?  In this post there are some hints and tips on what products to use and how to use them:

-First up we have the old favorite Vinegar. This is really a multi-purpose cleaner and you can use it to:

Clean smelly mess of the carpet. Simply spray directly onto the carpet straight after the mess has been created.

Remove nasty odors from any room. Just place a tablespoon or two in a dish with some water and leave it there for a few hours or overnight, when you come back the smell will be gone.

-Vinegar can also be used as an all purpose cleaner for general cleaning like scrubbing and removing stains. Combine one half water with one half vinegar and use on any nonporous surface. You can also use this same concentration of cleaning mixture to clean windows and glass, use a soft cloth to wipe dry.

Or to clean floor surfaces simply mix half a cup of vinegar with half a gallon of water and proceed to mop. If you have tiles you may want to adjust the concentration as the vinegar will eventually dissolve the tiling grout over time.

– Vinegar comes to the rescue once again if you want to get rid of stubborn remnants of sticky labels. All you have to do is pour over the vinegar, leave for a couple of minutes and then rub the mark off.

Metal responds well to vinegar too, mainly stainless steel reacts best but it can be used on other metals.

Besides vinegar there are other familiar products you can use to get your house into a spotless condition and one of these products is baking soda and another is lemon:

To clean a grubby bathroom sprinkle a dusting of backing soda onto a wet sponge and you will be able to scrub away any unsightly stains or built-up dirt.

For the really tough spots squeeze a little lemon over it and then spray with vinegar (do not do this on porous surfaces!)

To polish copper or brass combine lemon juice and salt to make a paste and then apply and buff-off until there is nor residue left. To clean chrome just use lemon juice on its own.

To remove stains from clothing mix half lemon with half vinegar and immerse the clothing into the solution, leave for a while then put on a rinse cycle to rinse out the solution.

Lemon juice is also a good natural cleaning agent for tackling limescale. Soak a paper towel in lemon juice and wrap around bathroom or kitchen taps for about an hour. Wash off and repeat if required.
